In most cultures, particularly in Asia, a delicate, oval jaw is considered to be a hallmark of feminine beauty. If you are conscious about your square-shaped or wide jaw, you may want to undergo a procedure known as a jaw reduction surgery to trim your jaw line and make it v-shaped. But this is not a trivial surgery and it is important that you fully understand what a jaw reduction surgery entails before you opt for it. Your surgeon might ask you to get a CT scan done just so that he is able to understand your facial structure better and can accordingly start planning and mapping your surgery.

A Taiwanese woman has done something out of the ordinary, even by cosmetic surgery standards, in a bid to shrink the size of her face - by shaving the bone structure of her face. According to a Sina report, the year-old lass decided to undergo a procedure known as facial bone contouring after her face made her the butt of jokes. After undergoing the procedure, her face bloated up to the size of an inflated balloon but after a recovery period of a month and a half, the swelling went down and she emerged with a face that was distinctively sharper. Despite yielding somewhat-successful results from the procedure, the woman issued a caution to others out there who may want to follow in her footsteps. She said that while being vain is perfectly normal, women should not go overboard in their pursuit of perfection.
The jawbone can be very prominent in some Asians, particularly in ethnic groups from Northeast Asia. Prominence of the jaw leads to a widened lower face. To reduce the size of the jaw, the bone is filed down and a portion of bone is removed.
